Growing Up

I have always loved food and eating, and helping my grandmother in the kitchen. My grandmother and my mother both impacted my feelings towards food. In my grandmother’s kitchen I loved everything she made, which was almost always traditional Mexican cooking. Food was about pleasure and coming together around her kitchen table. It was delicious and comforting and I looked forward to it everyday after school. My mother’s kitchen was completely different. I was watched and observed to see how big my portions would be and how often I was eating. If I wanted something sweet, I could always eat fruit. This led to a lot of yo-yo dieting and starvation, which initially affected my hormone balance and blood sugar.

Learning about food

In my 20’s my blood sugar always seemed to be elevated every time I went in for my physical exam. I was always cautioned that if I couldn’t get my blood sugar down, I would end up with pre-diabetes and then eventually diabetes. I wasn’t eating a ton of sweets and sodas. I was confused and that’s when I started reading about me, nutritional therapy practitioner blood sugar balance and hormone balance techniques. Making changes in the way I ate helped me discover how food made me feel. I started trying new recipes and found a way to eat that has helped me balance my blood sugar and live diabetes free while eating delicious meals. This is what led me to study about food and to become a nutritional therapist practitioner. My personal experience with blood sugar and hormone balance drives my passion for sharing nutritional therapy practices.
