Hi! My name is Maria and I am a nutritional therapist practitioner. I love to help people discover how good they can feel using a bio-individual approach to nutrition.

Growing Up

I have always loved food and eating, and helping my grandmother in the kitchen. My grandmother and my mother both impacted my feelings towards food. In my grandmother’s kitchen I loved everything she made, which was almost always traditional Mexican cooking. Food was about pleasure and coming together around her kitchen table. It was delicious and comforting and I looked forward to it everyday after school. My mother’s kitchen was completely different. I was watched and observed to see how big my portions would be and how often I was eating. If I wanted something sweet, I could always eat fruit. This led to a lot of yo-yo dieting and starvation.

Learning about food

In my 20’s my blood sugar always seemed to be elevated every time I went in for my physical exam. I was always cautioned that if I couldn’t get my blood sugar down, I would end up with pre-diabetes and then eventually diabetes. I wasn’t eating a ton of sweets and sodas. I was confused and that’s when I started reading about food and making changes in the way I ate. I discovered how food made me feel. I started trying new recipes and found a way to eat that has helped me balance my blood sugar and live diabetes free while eating delicious meals. This is what led me to study about food and to become a nutritional therapist practitioner.

Our food choices can get and keep us healthy. But they can also harm us if we are not careful. Proper nutrition takes awareness. If you are interested in learning more, schedule a free discovery call.
